"Close range fighter robot proficient in melee combat. Possesses flame generation ability, and can attack through self-detonation."
- Stage Select Description
Mighty No. 1: Pyrogen, is a robot who uses fire and explosion based abilities, and is the first member of the Mighty Numbers created by Dr. White.
Appearance[]
Pyrogen's torso, arms and legs are almost entirely covered in specially built gas burners. When unlit, Pyro's body appears somewhat skinny, but when they are lit up, his body becomes engulfed in a flame-like exterior. His face is mostly humanoid in shape, with blue-green eyes, orange skin, and black stripes on the sides.
Synopsis[]
Pyrogen, the first Mighty Number created by Dr. White, fought alongside his siblings in numerous battles within the Battle Colosseum. When a mysterious virus corrupted nearly every robot, Pyrogen succumbed to its effects, becoming feral and dangerously aggressive. He rampaged through an oil platform, intent on setting it ablaze. Fearing a catastrophic inferno, Dr. White dispatched Beck to intercept him.
Upon encountering Pyrogen, Beck was met with raw fury as Pyro attacked in a blazing rage. Despite the intense battle, Beck managed to subdue him and restore him to his senses.
Once freed from the virus’s control, Pyrogen heads to the Water Works Bureau to locate Cryosphere. There, he assists Beck by melting the ice, helping to restore the facility to operational status. Later, after the Mighty Numbers were cured, he joins Beck, Dr. White, and his siblings in an assault on the Cherry Dynamics Robot Factory to halt the production of malfunctioning robots.
Following Beck’s victory over Trinity in the Battle Colosseum, Pyrogen and the other Mighty Numbers are deployed to rescue both Beck and Trinity from the collapsing structure.
Personality[]
As the first Mighty Number created by Dr. White, Pyrogen is the eldest among his siblings and naturally assumes the role of their leader. His personality is a mix of unwavering confidence and boisterous energy, yet beneath his fiery exterior lies a caring and level-headed side.
Under the virus’s influence, however, Pyrogen’s demeanor took a drastic turn. He became wild and destructive, consumed by an uncontrollable urge to set everything ablaze. His rampage through the oil platform was driven purely by his instinct to burn, and upon Beck’s arrival—distinctly not engulfed in flames—Pyro reacted with frustration and aggression, launching into battle without hesitation.
Abilities[]
Pyrogen can activate the gas burners across his body, enveloping himself in a blazing armor of flames that enhances both his offense and defense. As he charges forward, he leaves towering fire pillars in his wake, scorching the battlefield. Despite his fiery arsenal, Pyro favors brute force in combat, relying on relentless charges, crushing bear hugs, and devastating body slams. His signature weapon, Fire Explosion, solidifies his dominance as a powerhouse of destruction.
Other Appearances[]
Pyrogen makes an appearance in the 8-bit crossover game Mighty Gunvolt as a downloadable content boss character, accompanied by a version of the Oil Platform stage.
In Mighty Gunvolt Burst, Pyrogen returns as a boss with enhanced abilities. He can unleash a massive fiery punch by striking the opposite side of the screen, similar to Carrera’s magnetic attacks from Azure Striker Gunvolt. Additionally, he can scale his fire walls to execute a crushing body slam. His explosion attack becomes even more formidable—by absorbing small fireballs from the fire walls, he amplifies its size and power, covering nearly the entire screen. Only the corners remain safe from the inferno.
Development[]
At the start of Pyrogen's development, the team decided to make a fire-based boss. Specifically, they wanted his entire body to be like a flaming sun or furnace. Kimo Kimo came up with a sun, furnace, and boxer-based robot. After lots of trial and error, Inafune drew a sketch as a counter-proposal. Inafune felt it would be fun if Pyrogen's design was a flaming, muscle mass, only to reveal a thin frame of gas burners that make the flames. His non-flamed design is based on the top of a Zippo-style lighter.
Trivia[]
- Pyrogen and the first 5 Mighty Robots you encounter in the game all appear to be a throwbacks to the first 6 Robot Masters from Mega Man. Mighty No. 1 has the most in common with his supposed predecessor Fire Man. Like Fire Man, Pyrogen's design was based off of a Zippo lighter where Fire Man was believed to be based off of a torch or a knight. He also has some similarities to Heat Man as well as FlameMan.EXE from the Mega Man Battle Network series and Apollo Flame from the Mega Man Star Force series. He also bears a strong resemblance to Flame Hyenard from Mega Man X7 both from his body made of gas burners and his habit of yelling during battle.
